Northern Ireland Commission for Catholic Education: Post Primary Review

Main Navigation Bar

About Us

The Religious and Diocesan Senior Trustees for Catholic Education have been considering for some time the need to plan for change in the post-primary sector, in preparation for changes which the Government has already introduced in the 2006 Education Order.

This order has profound implications for Catholic education and the planning and provision of our network of Catholic schools. Schools throughout the five Dioceses are facing these challenges and it is essential that our sector plans pro-actively to ensure that parents and pupils will continue to have access to high quality Catholic Education.

The Trustees, both diocesan and religious have established The Post-primary Review Team Process to consider provision at post-primary level. Structures and mechanisms are in place and a number of projects have been launched in Fermanagh and Lurgan. In adopting this approach, it is anticipated that Catholic schools will gain in a number of ways.

The approach promotes a balanced, consistent and transparent project methodology which allows for the maximum engagement of schools and which will facilitate the provision and maintenance of a system of schools which is modern, fit for purpose and secure for the foreseeable future.
